2005 Water Quality Grant Recipient

Drain Dare, City of Olympia, Washington

The City of Olympia recently unveiled Drain Dare, a community education tool that provides an interactive lesson on how everyday practices can impact water quality.

The Drain Dare trailer has two levels. The upper level features a three-dimensional city street with a house, factory and car. The people-sized storm drain system in the lower level provides an opportunity for people to follow the path stormwater will take before it reaches the Puget Sound.

Drain Dare was partially funded by the first water quality grant administered by Stormwater Management, Inc. The $10,000 grant supports a project focused on direct impacting the understanding and improvement of water quality. The grant was part of Stormwater Management’s philanthropic contributions to environmental causes.

Drain Dare will be available at public events throughout the Puget Sound area and at educational meetings with schools or civic groups.
