The Dan River Basin Authority

Every year, CONTECH accepts grant proposals related to the implementation of a water quality education program, best management practice (BMP), or facility maintenance cost analysis. Qualified organizations include public agencies, universities or research institutions, and non-profit organizations focused on stormwater issues.  The 2007 grant was awarded to the Dan River Basin Association (DRBA).

The DRBA works to bridge borders and build communities in the Piedmont region along Southern Virginia and Northern North Carolina. Their goal is to foster the creation of a regional identity as a way to promote the history, natural resources, and unique features of the Dan River Valley Region that straddles the states.

The 2007 Water Quality Grant assisted the DRBA with the implementation of a public education program for the explicit purpose of improving water quality. The program included interpretive signage at public waterfront locations, educational displays for events, and a high quality brochure educating the public on the importance of maintaining vegetated buffers along streams and rivers.
The DRBA Association successfully completed the implementation and production of all deliverables outlined in their grant application to CONTECH Stormwater Solutions.

The grant deliverables included 5,000 brochures that will be distributed across the Dan
River Basin, ten full-color displays produced for use as educational displays at public events throughout the watershed, three full color interpretive signs and pedestals were produced and are being used during public events at prominent locations.

Overall the grant has, and will continue to exceed the outreach goals established in the original application.  As an environmental company, CONTECH Stormwater Solutions understands the need to preserve and respect the natural habitat. This grant is funded as part of their philanthropic contributions to environmental causes.
