Tensar Sierra Slope Retention and Grade Separation

Tensar® Uniaxial (UX) Geogrids

Economic and Aesthetic Grade Separation Alternative

Tensar Uniaxial (UX) Geogrids work in conjunction with backfill material to provide a complete and fully integrated mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) system. Each mechanical component has been designed to work together for optimum efficiency in a variety of challenging site and loading conditions.

The cost effectiveness of an MSE system, coupled with a natural aesthetic appeal, provides a reinforced soil retention system that is routinely specified by government agencies, developers, engineers and architects for a variety of applications.

Benefits of the Tensar UX Geogrids:

Economical
  • Creates usable land in previously undeveloped areas.
  • Saves up to 60% versus conventional concrete retaining walls.
  • May allow for lower quality fills so on-site soils are usually acceptable.
  • Installs quickly and without specialized equipment.

Flexible

  • Create slopes from 26° to 70° to fit site development conditions.
  • Use a smaller footprint while maximizing land for development.
  • Create curved slopes and varying face angles for a more natural look.
  • Specify a variety of facing options – from erosion blankets to professionally landscaped vegetation.

Attractive

  • Blends naturally with the surrounding environment.
  • Not subject to facial distortions and cracking like concrete walls.
  • Resists the effects of differential settlement and seismic activity.

Proven

  • Stands up to the most critical loading situations: railways, bridge abutments and building foundations.
  • MSE systems have adapted to extreme conditions and withstood multiple seismic events exceeding 0.4g.

Tensar UX Geogrids for Slope Retention

Tensar UX Slope Retention Tensar UX Geogrids provide an economic and aesthetic alternative to conventional retaining walls, replacing them with natural, landscaped, sloping structures almost indistinguishable from the native terrain. There's no cracking, leaning, bulging or defacing with our system, and it typically costs 30% to 60% less than conventional concrete walls. Working together, the components create a system whose structural integrity has been proven in a variety of challenging site and load conditions, including the support of buildings and earthquake loadings.

Tensar UX Geogrids for Grade Separation

Triax Grade Separation

For projects with +70° grade-separations, Tensar UX Geogrids are the cost-effective alternative to concrete-faced wall systems. Coupled with Tensar SierraScape baskets, they provide the only wire-formed wall system with a positive, mechanical connection that assures long-term connection integrity. The positive connection better withstands differential settlement and offers exceptional performance in areas where seismic activity or heavy external loads are a concern. With a worldwide installed base of over 8 million square feet, the SierraScape System is a proven solution that adapts to many site conditions, design requirements, and aesthetic considerations. Design versatility and ease-of-installation also make it 30% to 60% less expensive than comparable concrete systems.

Tensar UX Geogrids for Pressure Relief Systems

Tensar UX Pressure Relief

As opposed to large cast-in-place foundations to support soil and building loads for below-grade construction, Tensar UX Geogrids provide a faster, more affordable solution for addressing this critical construction requirement. Because the system effectively reinforces surrounding fill, lateral soil loads against the below-grade structure are eliminated, you can design lower cost foundation walls that are structurally equivalent to conventional methods. New building foundations or existing bridges, flood walls, and other retaining wall construction and rehabilitation projects can benefit from this technology. Low cost materials and speedy construction make utilizing Tensar UX Geogrids for pressure relief applications the system of choice to replace counterfort walls and reduce concrete reinforcement in structural foundation walls.

Tensar UX Geogrids for Temporary Walls

Tensar UX Walls The Tensar Temporary Retaining Walls are ideal for maintenance of traffic and staged construction operations, as is often seen during bridge improvements and road widening construction. This solution internally reinforces the fill within the wall and provides an inexpensive facing system. In addition to being a low-cost alternative to conventional temporary walls such as sheet piles, the Tensar Temporary Wall is easy to install, requires no special labor or cranes, and can be left in place and buried in phased construction.
